History: | Formed in 1696 from territory in eastern North Carolina, south of the Albemarle Sound; named for John Granville, Earl of Bath and one of the Lords Proprietors. In 1705, Bath County was divided into 3 Precincts: Archdale, Pamptecough, and Wickham. Bath County continued as a civil division until 1724 when the 3 precincts eventually were formed into counties or county equivilents. |
